Before real estate, I never really knew anything about drones or what people used them for. Now I can’t see running my business without one.
Last year right before I got my real estate license, Mike wanted a drone. We bought one and he played around with it and showed me how it worked. I wasn’t really interested in ever flying it myself but I did think it was a really great tool to take pictures of our property and see the area from a different perspective. He was skilled at flying it from his video game background.
The first time we saw the value of the drone was when our back yard flooded from heavy rain. Mike took the drone up and we were able to see where the drainage ditches needed to be added without ever stepping foot into the flooded area. The birds eye view pictures and video were instrumental to creating a plan of action to solve the problem.
I first used the drone for my real estate business when Mike took the drone up to take video of the first snowfall last winter. I posted it on my social media and it quickly became my most popular post of the year
When I started hosting open houses for other real estate agents, I needed a way to grab attention with being a new agent. I didn’t really know any other agents besides my mentor. My first open house, Mike took the drone out for a quick 30 second video. It was a fly by of the house and the community. I posted it on facebook and instagram. I had so much engagement! I knew we were on to something.
The next open house we took it a step further and took video of the inside of the house as well. Mike took small video shots of the kitchen, master bedroom, and family room. We went home that day and put the shots together with editing software and made a short video.
Once again, I had a ton of engagement and shares. We quickly realized this was a way to get my name out there. It was also a way to offer something of value back to the listing agent for letting me host open houses with their listings. They could use the video for their own marketing to bring attention to their listing. It is a win-win.
Since that first video, we have come a long way and we are still learning more with each video. The drone has helped my business grow and I even got a listing appointment specifically because the client saw one of my videos.
I may still not have interest in flying the drone but I can tell you one thing, I can’t see operating my business without it.
